Looking for a little more control without the commitment of a permanent straightener; Melody wanted to try my new “Smooth-out” service by Pravana. The “Smooth-out” is a no-commitment straightener that can be used on virgin, bleach highlighted, and color-treated hair. The treatment reduces 70-90% of your curl and lasts 8-12 weeks, gradually reverting back to your original texture. It’s also recommended to use the specially formulated Pravana Smooth-out Shampoo and Conditioner for home maintenance.
This was Melody’s very first chemical service EVER and I was honored to perform it on her. As you can see, she needed a little help getting her extremely thick, curly hair under control. Because she has so much hair, Melody was looking for less volume and also wanted to be able to blow out her hair for a straighter look at home. The proof is in the pictures!
Ugh! I’m adding this second post because, in the process of posting the previous pics of Krystal, I somehow lost the text for the first one. Once again: Krystal is a new mom who came to me looking for a change. She had four inches of roots, and six inches of too much damaged hair. First I gave her a heavy full foil; next I applied a light brown one process color between the foils to give her color back some depth and much needed contrast. After her color processed, I applied an ash blonde color glaze over it all to slightly tone the highlights and also give her condition and shine. The results are pretty dramatic. Voila! One Hot Momma!
Ok, here’s the medium length Redken Urban Curls I did last Thursday on Kaitlyn. I was lucky that she had “Virgin” (unprocessed) hair and I didn’t have to take any special precautions from my bag of tricks. We took professional before pictures (to be posted at a later date); the afters are my amateur attempt.
I think you’ll get a good idea of our results though. Kaitlyn went from ho-hum straight to hubba-hubba sexy, tousled waves; just in time for summer. Next we’ll be adding a few highlights and maybe a glaze overlay of color! Stay-tuned in the next couple of weeks for Kaitlyn’s final step in her sultry-summer-hair transformation!
I’ve started giving “Perms” again. No, they’re nothing like the ones in the 1980’s! (I know, its hard to get that visual out of your head.) Redken calls it “Urban Curls”. Go to their website to get a closer look. The technique involves using a thermal (heat) source; aka curling iron, one that gets up to 360 degrees and sponge rollers. Doing away with the old rubber-banded rods is a relief because I have a severe latex allergy. I’ll admit the thermal permanent is a little involved; but no pain, no gain. The results I’ve had so far are silky, soft, and very natural looking curls. They still smell a bit, but nothing close to the clear-the-room stench they used to give off. In a couple of days I’ll do one on someone who has collar-length hair. I’ll post the pics here and on my Facebook page for the curious. Until then!
OMG! I have no idea what the Hell I’m doing-please bear with me!!!
